7 Things About Me

1.  I have recently rediscovered the joys of playing Mario Kart 64 into the wee hours of the morning. 

2. My dad helped me buy a Nissan Altima for my high school graduation. I plan on driving it until it's kaput.

3. I had a lazy eye when I was little. Thankfully, my dad got me surgery to get it fixed. I wore an eye patch for awhile. My sister Amanda told me my eyebrow was going to be ripped off when they took the patch off.  

4. My gramma got me a kitten when I was little. She told me it was a girl and so I named her Chrissy. When my other Grandma took Chrissy to get 'fixed', the doctors told her it was a boy. In fear of making me feel weird, my gran did not tell me Chrissy was a boy. Years later, one of my sisters spilled the beans. To this day, my whole family calls Chrissy "it" when referring to the cat. 

5. In 11th grade, my dad gave me a certain amount of Weight Watchers points that I had to eat a day to help me gain weight. Look at me now, worked like a charm!

6. A few weeks ago, Jon tried teaching me how to drive his truck. It ended in tears. He drove the truck home.

7. My new baking obsession has prepared Jon and I for the upcoming long, hard winter. We thought we could each use an extra layer preparing for the cold.

community pool.

so there is a community pool a couple blocks away from our house. 

its actually only sometimes a community pool. 

the other times, its where the marines do their water training. 

they have the tall platforms where they have to jump off in full gear and qualify?

...or something.

but they also have diving boards for regular people!

its a really nice pool, its big and its deep in some places and shallow in others. there's a lap section as well.

jon and i went on friday when he (thank goodness!) got off early. 

as much fun as we were having, its still a pool on a marine base.

"Sir, please don't run on the diving board."

"Sir, please no throwing each other in the pool."

etc...

it was so funny... 

and the pool was NOT busy. 

it was during working hours, and for some reason, there were no kids?

but i kept looking around and thinking umm are we in the 50's..??

NOTHING about that place told me it was 2010.

in the middle/rightish of this picture, you can see that tent of camo. 

the fences were draped in camo, and there were chairs in there.

don't know what that is for.

on the very right you can barely see one of the diving boards.

in between the low dive and high dive are the platforms. they were blocked off.

this is the section of the pool you can just swim around in. 

there are bleachers there with a tin roof. the entire pool was surrounded by that cinderblock wall.

a minute clock. didn't show the time, just the amount of minutes going by.

more tin roofing over picnic chairs. 

and what's a marine training center without pull up bars?

swoon.

his military haircut wasn't helping either. 

besides peoples outfits, i really felt like i had stepped back 55 years, it was so weird!

new blog title.

Okay, so i've never really had an official blog name.

december 2007. 
i was moving to nyc. 

a couple nights before i moved, my dear sister lizzie said i needed to start a blog to document.

so i did.

 it was titled "New York, Not so good to me."

rough couple months there. 

a couple months into it, i thought "hey i kind of like it here."

so i changed it to "new york, pretty good to me."

a few months later, i made a very sad but obviously life changing decision to move home.

then came the title "Home again, home again, jiggity jig."

after i'd been home for about a year, i realized that "home again home again" didn't really apply.

so, not knowing what else to do, i changed my blog title to my name.

"alexandra robinson."

that lasted for a good while.

until mr lucky proposed to miss luckier, and i knew 'robinson' wouldn't stay for long. 

knowing this, i changed it to "Alexandra Robinson-Hagerman." 
(identity crisis)

my own name for a blog title is so silly.

so i decided on a new name, that will last for at least three years.

i don't want to make my blog seem like i'm living through jon, but the military is a huge part of both our lives.

so the name will be

Letters From Base.

because-HELLO!

i live on base!

i'm so excited to actually have a real title!

and the amazing Amanda Marie fixed my blog up a bit and made my fabulous header.

and to go along with the new name, i'm going to write an entry every now and then writing about different things on base, mostly for my family.

july 3-4th.

i know this is late. here is how we spent the fourth of july weekend.

rode Nephi's fixie. fixxy? phyquesie?

gawked at nephi's muscles. 

ate at BXMBURGER!!
ha.
new little burger joint on main street in huntington beach.

decorated our bikes for the occasion. 

celebrated america. 

dressed accordingly. 

loved each other. lots. 

snoogled. 

wore star stickers and took unflattering pictures that made my arm look bigger than my body.

seriously loved and appreciated america. 
(NO i didn't cry during the parade)
(also, worked on our picture smiles)

enjoyed the parade from our usual spot

got face paint from little kids in the parade. cutie!!

had fun together!

were reborn in the swimming pool. 

sacrilegiously walked on water. 

waved a lot. 
(don't know why jon ruined this picture i was talking of nephi in the pool..ss)

baked festive fun cupcakes!
(worked on jon's picture smile. see how good he's doing?)

hung out as twins. 

smiled big big big. walked to the fireworks on the beach.

watched the fireworks.

it was a fabulous weekend! we loved spending time with amanda and nephi, as always. 
i love america so much! i am so grateful to be able to do such fun things all the time.
it's always so fun to celebrate a holiday as a nation and celebrate our freedom.

bear.

LOOK at this kitten. 

he's officially ours.

we've been thinking and talking about getting a kitten for awhile.

i want to have a little companion here while jon is gone, and i just love cats.

he finally decided to let me get one!

he's allergic, so i wanted to make sure that jon was here when i got the kitten so he could get used to him.

we fell in love with him as soon as we saw him. 

this is us on our drive home.

i'm making that face because he has his buried in my arm. he was so drowsy all day.

but he fell asleep like this and it was soo cute. 

when we got home, he went right under the couch and passed out for hours. 

when he woke up, we showed him his food and the litter box.

after jon helped him, he started eating himself. then he made his way to the litter box and used it.

fabulous. 

i love him. he has such a pretty coat and it just so cute. 

jon doesn't like cats and didn't want to get one.

he is so sweet for letting me get bear and being so good to him.

they are SO cute together!!!!

wk 3.

first day with Bear. 

bedroom.

we finally got our drapes put up!

we got the drapes right after we got married but didn't have a curtain rod.

we keep getting wedding mail (its SO nice.)and last night we got a wal-mart card.

we looked through the entire store and couldn't find anything.

(it didn't help that it was in a really sketchy neighborhood...)

we finally decided on a curtain rod. its not my favorite, it'll definitely do for now though. 

i knew i wanted something darker than the bed, and you can't see the lamp, but the base has stacked balls so the lamp and curtain rod actually go really well together.

the panels are pretty nice. they're velvet and they're already lined.

i didn't know that until we got them out last night and i was so happy!

i also figured out how to take those hideous blinds down. 

oh and we put our mirror together.

that mirror is so old, i don't even know why my dad had it. then katie had it for awhile.

it's been in our basement for years though and my dad said we could take it along with everything else. 

i thought about refinishing or painting it...but it looks kind of cute and has character. 

we're making progress!
